Boy Hospitalized After Car Accident on Soledad Road
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 12, 2024) — An 8-year-old boy identified as Garrett Rothgeb was injured in a pedestrian accident Saturday, April 6th on Soledad Road in Pacific Beach.
The San Diego Police Department reported the child was struck by a vehicle in the 5000 block of Soledad Road, the San Diego Union Tribune reports.
He was reportedly standing next to his mother’s parked vehicle while she was unpacking and suddenly ran into the path of a vehicle when he saw his father across the street.
The 75-year-old man driving northbound in a vehicle struck the child at a slow rate of speed, police said.
Paramedics responded and rushed the boy to a hospital for treatment of a fractured pelvis and other non-life threatening injuries.
There is a Gofundme to raise money for the boy’s medical costs and support his family who are off work to be by his side. The child, who has autism, remains at the hospital where he is undergoing physical therapy and other services to get better, the family said.
”Easter Vacation was the worst day this little boy has ever experienced,” said Ruby Vargas, his grandmother.
The Traffic Division is heading up the investigation.
Witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
