
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2023) – A rollover crash on Gothard Street left five high-school students seriously hurt Sunday night near McFadden Avenue in Huntington Beach.
Two of the teens were critically injured following the 10:39 p.m. crash on Feb. 19th, according to County News Service.
The solo-vehicle crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Gothard Street, just south of West McFadden Avenue, the report said.
The 17-year-old boy driving the silver 1998 Toyota 4Runner was unable to control the SUV on a curve in the roadway. The SUV overturned several times and one person was ejected from the vehicle. A second person became trapped inside the SUV. .
The Huntington Beach Fire Department sent paramedics and firefighters to the scene and extricated the person trapped in the wreckage. They had to cut off two doors to reach the injured person.
Five people were taken in ambulances to hospital for further treatment. Two of then were listed in grave condition, but there are no further details about the others.
An investigation into the cause of the Gothard Street crash and liability is underway by the Huntington Beach Police Department.
