Deadly Wrong-Way Driver Crash on 10 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 8, 2024) – Jefferson Coreas-Lazo, 19, died in a crash with a wrong-way driver on the Santa Monica 10 Freeway at Overland Avenue in Los Angeles.
The deadly crash occurred at around 1:50 a.m. Sunday, April 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a woman was driving a 2024 Tesla heading eastbound on the westbound lanes of the freeway.
The 51-year-old Los Angeles woman reportedly crashed head-on into a 2016 Toyota driven by the Maywood teen, leaving him with fatal injuries and trapped in the wreckage.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and located two others from the Toyota, a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, with major injuries. They were both transported to a hospital. The occupants from the Toyota are all from Maywood.
Meanwhile, the woman from the Tesla was also injured and she was arrested on multiple charges.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the young man who died as Jefferson Coreas-Lazo.
Furthermore, a 19-year-old man driving a 2020 Infiniti reportedly had minor damage from debris in the roadway, but drove away.
