Alabama Man, 34, Killed in Crash is Identified
LAKESIDE, Calif. (April 24, 2024) — Jeremy Michael Ponton, 34, of Alabama, died in a motorcycle accident involving a pickup truck on April 16th on Winter Gardens Boulevard in Lakeside.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 8:05 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and the Times of San Diego.
The man was reportedly riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R southbound in the No. 1 lane on Winter Gardens Boulevard at a high rate of speed, police said.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Lakeside man driving a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck reportedly entered the southbound No. 1 lane of Winter Gardens Boulevard from a public driveway.
The truck pulled into the path of the motorcyclist, just north of Lemon Crest Drive, police said.
The motorcyclist reportedly crashed into the back of the pickup truck and both vehicles caught on fire and became engulfed in flames, police said.
Paramedics responded and rushed Jeremy Ponton to UCSD Medical Center where he later died from his injuries, police said. The San Diego coroner later identified him.
Meanwhile, the driver and passenger from the Ford truck did not report any injuries.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the deadly crash.
