Man Struck by Car Riding Electric Bicycle Dies at Hospital
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (May 8, 2024) — A former professional bodyboarder, Kevin Cerv, 56, of Oceanside, died Friday roughly a month after being struck by a car while riding an electric bicycle in Oceanside.
The collision occurred at Ocean Ranch Boulevard and Corporate Centre Drive around 3:51 a.m. on April 9th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner. He died at the hospital on May 3rd.
The coroner report stated the victim sustained major injuries after a driver in a gray Honda sedan struck him at the intersection.
Paramedics rushed the injured Oceanside man to the emergency room at Palomar Medical Center where he was later admitted to the Escondido hospital due to the severity of his injuries. His injuries included a cervical spine fracture and spinal cord injuries as well as trauma to his neck and head.
However, over the next month his condition worsened and he died at 7 p.m. on May 3rd, the report said.
Kevin Cerv is a graduate of San Dieguito High School in San Diego. He received a bodyboard for Christmas at age 10 and won several titles as a teen in the professional bodyboarding circuit, the Los Angeles Times reported back in 1988.
Finally, the Oceanside Police Department is heading up the investigation into liability for the fatal bicycle accident in Oceanside.
