Motorcyclist Killed in San Jose Crash on Highway 101
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2022) — Leonard Melo, 47, of San Jose, died and a passenger was injured in a solo-vehicle motorcycle accident on Highway 101 in San Jose.
The motorcyclist and his passenger were traveling southbound on Highway 101 in the area of Highway 87, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the 2008 Harley Davidson allegedly “lost control” of the vehicle and collided with the center median about 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 28th.
His 40-year-old passenger told investigators they were traveling “at a high rate of speed,” at the time of the collision.
Both Leonard Melo and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. They fell off the bike into the roadway.
The driver identified as Leonard Melo died at the scene.
Several vehicles stopped to help. Meanwhile, paramedics responded and transported the injured passenger to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
Police issued a SigAlert about 1:49 a.m. due to all southbound lanes being blocked. Authorities diverted all traffic off the highway to southbound SR-87.
Also, the roadway closed down for roughly an hour due to the crash.
Meanwhile, investigators will determine fault for the fatal San Jose motorcycle crash.
