3 Killed in Highway 132 Crash in Modesto
MODESTO, Calif. (August 30, 2021) — Lisa Trevino, Michael Maul and Heidi Maul all died in a head-on crash on Highway 132 Saturday night in Modesto.
The deadly crash happened about 9:10 p.m. Another driver in a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban attempted to pass a slower-moving semi-truck. That SUV crashed into the oncoming 2011 Nissan Versa occupied by all three who died.
Lisa Trevino, 40, of Ceres, and her passengers, Michael Maul, 43, of Salinda, and his wife, identified on Facebook as Heidi Lalani Maul.
Aurelia Amezcua, 49, of San Jose, was driving the Suburban SUV. Authorities say she was traveling about 65 mph in the westbound lanes as she approached the San Joaquin River bridge. She crossed over the double yellow center lines into opposing traffic when she collided with the Nissan, killing three people in the other car, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Both vehicles eventually came to a stop in the eastbound lanes and at the shoulder south of the roadway.
3 Injured in Deadly Modesto Head-on Crash
Meanwhile, Aurelia Amezcua suffered minor injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported her by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center.
Also hurt in the crash are her passengers Maria Magana, 53, of Hayward, and Mireya Reyes, 51. Both of them suffered major injuries. They were transported to Memorial Medical Center.
Police closed down Highway 132 from River Road to Gates Road for a 3-hour investigation.
Investigators do not suspect drugs and or alcohol are factors in the collision.
