1 Killed, 1 Injured in Fresno County Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (January 11, 2022) – Malik Blakeney, 26, of Fresno, died in a crash near North and Temperance avenues in Fresno County.
The traffic accident happened about 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10th, according to the Fresno County Sheriff Coroner.
Malik Blakeney was traveling northbound in a white Hyundai Ion on Temperance Avenue, just south of North Avenue, the report said.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old Fresno man driving a tractor trailer westbound on North Avenue hauling a load of lemons.
The truck was traveling at approximately 45 mph as it approached the intersection with Temperance. However, the Hyundai allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. The car entered the intersection directly into the path of the tractor trailer. That’s when the front left bumper of the truck impacted the right front passenger door of the Hyundai.
The driver of the tractor trailer reportedly lost control and the cab of the tractor trailer rotated clockwise. The truck’s load of lemons shifted and spilled onto the roadway. The truck driver eventually regained control of the semi-truck and came to a stop.
Sadly, the driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.
Paramedics responded and treated the driver of the tractor trailer for minor injuries before transporting him to Community Regional Medical Center.
The fatal Fresno County crash is still under investigation. The investigation is ongoing. Witnesses may contact the Fresno Area Public Information officer at (559) 705-2200.
