SYLMAR, Calif. (June 1, 2023) — Matthew Meredith, 19, of San Fernando, was hospitalized with severe injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Hubbard Street in Sylmar.
The traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, May 24th as the teenager was driving to pick up his little sister from school, according to a GoFundMe page.
The young man was driving an Infiniti Q50 when he was allegedly cut off by a black Cadillac Escalade. He crashed his car into a tree between San Fernando Road and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the San Fernando Sun.
The teen remains hospitalized on a respirator with severe injuries and has undergone five surgeries including brain surgery at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
The driver of a black Escalade SUV reportedly fled the scene after possibly causing the collision, but that information has not been confirmed.
A detective with the Traffic & Homicide’s Valley Traffic Division in Panorama City told the news organization that they have contacted all parties involved, but there are no arrests. It’s unknown who is at fault for the Sylmar crash.
