Woman Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-run Crash Identified
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (June 3, 2022) — Morgan Lafaye Barber, 56, of Bakersfield, died in a hit-and-run collision Saturday at Alfred Harrell Highway and Highway 178 in Bakersfield.
The deadly crash occurred about 8:41 p.m. on Saturday, May 28th at the Bakersfield intersection, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The Bakersfield woman was driving a vehicle southbound on Alfred Harrell Highway. She reportedly collided with a pickup truck traveling westbound on Highway 178. The Kern County coroner’s officer identified the victim who died at the scene of the collision about 9:23 p.m. Meanwhile, the driver reportedly fled on foot from the crash scene.
Police later caught up with the motorist the next day. They arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, police said.
The suspect, David Alvarez, 28, was booked Sunday, May 29th into the Kern County Jail.
Investigators with the Bakersfield Police Department continue to work on the cause of the crash.
