Suspected DUI Driver, 55, Struck Pedestrian and Drove into Water
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (March 2, 2022) — A 55-year-old suspected drunken driver struck a pedestrian when his pickup drove off an oceanfront road and wound up in the water in Oceanside.
The Oceanside pedestrian accident happened just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1st, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
The motorist reportedly drove his truck off South The Strand, just south of the Tyson Street Park, police said. He then accelerated and hit a 68-year-old man going driving over boulders lining the street. Eventually, the pickup truck came to a stop in the ocean amid breaking waves.

Authorities did not mention if the man hit by the truck was on foot or lying/sitting on the beach. Paramedics transported the man to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries following the Oceanside pedestrian accident.
Police subsequently arrested the driver and booked him at a Vista jail. His bail is set at $100,000.
Meanwhile, a passenger in the truck did not face any charges and was released, police said.
