PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (August 4, 2021) — A fatal Palm Springs pedestrian accident happened Wednesday morning on Sunrise Way.

UPDATE: Donald Greco, 59, of Palm Springs, was identified as the pedestrian by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.

A  truck struck the man crossing the road in a wheelchair about 5:30 a.m. on August 4th at North Sunrise Way, just south of East Vista Chino Drive in Palm Springs, California. It’s unknown at this time what led up to the pedestrian fatality.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department the victim died at the scene, according to NBC Palm Springs.

Police and fire personnel responded within three minutes of the police dispatch, but wound up pronouncing the man dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver stopped and cooperated with investigators at the intersection, officials said. Additionally, the cause of the crash was under investigation.

Authorities closed down North Sunrise Way, just south of Vista Chino Drive  for the investigation.

Police will seek to find out if drugs and or alcohol were factors in the collision.
