Fatal Pedestrian Accident on 170 Freeway
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (June 1, 2022)- A fatal North Hollywood pedestrian accident involving a Los Angeles city vehicle happened Tuesday night on the Hollywood (170) Freeway.
The vehicle, operated by the director of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Crisis Response Team, struck the pedestrian in the northbound lanes of the Hollywood (170) Freeway about 10:30 p.m. on May 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene near Victory Boulevard. Authorities later added the victim is a man in his 30s.
Meanwhile, the city vehicle sustained severe damage to its front end in the crash.
Also, paramedics responded and transported the driver by ambulance to a hospital in an unknown condition. The driver is identified as Joseph Avalos, a Los Angeles Police Department reserve officer who runs the mayor’s Crisis Response Team.
Finally, investigators closed three lanes of the freeway due to the crash for over six hours.
