Fatal Merced Pedestrian Accident G Street, 5th Street
MERCED, Calif. (April 8, 2022) — A pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday night after being hit by a Merced police officer at G Street and 5th Street in Merced.
UPDATE: Josefa Blandon, 82, identified as pedestrian killed in crash on G Street.
The deadly collision occurred about 10 p.m. on April 7th at the Merced intersection, according to ABC 30 News.
The on-duty Merced police officer was reportedly driving in a marked patrol unit when for unknown reasons the vehicle struck a woman as she was walked in the roadway.
The woman suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision and the Merced Police Department is conducting an administrative investigation.
The report stated that the police officer has been placed on paid leave.
