Man Struck, Killed Crossing Freeway Lanes in San Juan Capistrano
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (August 30, 2021) — A fatal San Juan Capistrano accident involving a pedestrian happened on the Interstate 5 Freeway in south Orange County.
A driver struck and killed the young man as he ran across traffic lanes of the San Diego (5) Freeway, according to authorities.
The collision happened about 8:05 p.m. on Sunday, August 29th. Witnesses told police the shirtless man ran from the right shoulder toward the center divider of the northbound 5 Freeway. The location is at the Pacific Coast Highway exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Pedestrian Ran Across Freeway
Authorities did not release the man’s name, but described him as Hispanic, in his late 20s or early 30s. He had no shirt, blue pants and something around his neck, police said.
Meanwhile, authorities issued a SigAlert at 8:49 p.m. They closed down all lanes except the HOV lane and the number one lane.
