Father, Football Coach ID’d as Crash Victim
YUBA COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2024) — Shane Bunn, 34, of Marysville, died Monday in a crash involving a suspected DUI, hit-and-run driver on Feather River Road near Murphy Road in Yuba County.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred at around 7:57 p.m. on Feb. 26th, according to the California Highway Patrol and KCRA News.
The victim, who was a walk-on football coach at Lindhurst High School, was traveling southbound in a gray Honda CRV on Feather River Road. He reportedly passed two slow-moving vehicles and moved into the northbound lane.
Meanwhile, another driver in a black Toyota Corolla, identified as Larry Lee Anderson Jr., allegedly tried to pass all three vehicles at high speed. He reportedly side-swiped a black BMW and a white Nissan Altima before rear-ending the Honda CRV driven by the coach, police said.
The impact caused Shane Bunn’s vehicle to leave the roadway and crash down an embankment as well as slam into a concrete culvert.
Larry Anderson Jr., 50, of Plumas Lake, is suspected of DUI and reportedly fled the scene without stopping to help the victim.
However, police later caught up with the suspect and now he is facing charges of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run causing injury and felony DUI causing injury.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office is heading up the investigation.
