Tragedy at Lineman College in Oroville, CA
OROVILLE, Calif. (March 26, 2024) — A 19-year-old student died when he fell from a broken power pole Monday morning at Northwest Lineman College in Oroville.
Carlos Mendoza, 19, of Oroville, was engaged in a training exercise on the power pole when around 10:30 a.m. the pole “failed” and the Oroville teen fell to the ground, according to the Oroville Police Department.
Unfortunately, the young man died at the scene. His family created a Gofundme account to raise money for his funeral expenses. Carlos Mendoza graduated from Victor Valley High School in 2023 and was just one week away from completing the training in this program.
“On behalf of Northwest Lineman College, I want to express our sincere condolences to the family of our student who lost his life yesterday,” said Mike Daniels, President, Northwest Lineman College. “We’re working closely with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate the incident. The investigation of this incident is ongoing, and we have no additional information to share at this time.”
Detectives from the Oroville Police Department are investigating.
The school, which offers 15-week courses in electrical line work, is one of four campuses of Northwest Lineman College in the United States.
