Driver Arrested DUI for Fatal Crash Near Tesla Facility

FREMONT, Calif. (May 9, 2024) — Taniela Fanau Hafoka, 26, of Oakland, died in a Fremont pedestrian accident Friday night on Fremont Boulevard near a Tesla factory.

The deadly crash occurred in the 45000 block of Fremont Boulevard at around 11:30 p.m. on May 3rd, according to East Bay Times.

A 58-year-old Sunnyvale man was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the collision. He struck the victim who was standing outside the factory on a break. The vehicle went on to collide with a traffic pole roughly a quarter of a mile away from the pedestrian collision, the report said.

Paramedics responded and provided life-saving measures Taniela Fanau Hafoka who was hit, but he died at the crash scene.

Meanwhile, Fremont police arrested the 58-year-old driver on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury.

The driver suffered minor injuries and transported to a hospital. On Tuesday, he was taken into custody at Alameda County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
