Uber Driver Hits Pedestrian Newport Boulevard, East 17th Street in Costa Mesa

Pedestrian Injured in Costa Mesa Crash Involving Uber Driver

COSTA MESA, Calif. (March 2, 2022)  – A pedestrian was injured early Saturday morning in a pedestrian accident involving an Uber driver on Newport Boulevard, just south of East 17th Street in Costa Mesa.

The collision happened about 1:41 a.m. on Feb. 26th at the busy Costa Mesa intersection, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The driver of a grey 2010 Toyota Prius with Uber livery struck the pedestrian due to unknown circumstances.

Firefighters and paramedics responded and treated the pedestrian at the scene. They transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital.

The pedestrian’s condition is unknown at this time, but police confirmed it was not a fatality.

The vehicle suffered major front-end damage including a smashed windshield is the collision.

Meanwhile, the man driving the Uber vehicle stopped and is cooperating with law enforcement.

Finally, police are heading up the investigation into liability and closed down all southbound lanes of Newport Boulevard for several hours at East 17th Street.
