Castroville Woman, 26, Killed in Crash with Suspected DUI Driver
SAN MARTIN, Calif. (Nov. 10, 2021) — Vanessa Arellano, 26, of Castroville, died early Sunday as she drove home from work when her car was rear-ended by another vehicle on Highway 101 near San Martin.
The deadly crash happened about 2:50 a.m. on in the southbound lanes of the freeway, just south of San Martin Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.
A 23-year-old Prunedale man driving a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette reportedly crashed into the back of her 2004 Toyota sedan at high speed. The two drivers subsequently lost control and went off the roadway. The cars knocked over a fence near the San Martin airport, police said.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the woman who died as Vanessa Arellano.
Both drivers were alone in their vehicles. Meanwhile, police suspect that alcohol was a factor in the collision. Authorities arrested the driver from the Corvette after the collision.
Also, the mother of Vanessa Arellano has a GoFundMe page to raise money for her daughter’s funeral expenses.
Finally, the investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
