Major Injury Crash Involving Alleged DUI Driver on Highway 1
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (April 17, 2024) — Four people were seriously injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver on Highway 1 at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County.
The multi-vehicle crash occurred between San Antonio and Firefighter roads at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16th, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Noozhawk.
Raymond Guerra, 21, of Lompoc, was allegedly driving under the influence as he traveled northbound on Highway 1. The suspect reportedly crossed over the center median and crashed into five other vehicles traveling southbound, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Yadira Rayarios, Deya Bernal, Wen Lee Injured in Crash
The Lompoc man was ejected from his vehicle after it collided with three other motorists including Yadira Rayarios, 20, of Lompoc, Deya Bernal, 54, of Lompoc, and Wen Lee, 60, of Milpitas, Police said.
Paramedics responded and located all four drivers with injuries including the suspected DUI driver who was critically injured. Raymond Guerra was airlifted to Marian Medical Center and subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Yadira Rayarios, and Deya Bernal, both had major injuries and Wen Lee had moderate injuries. They were all taken by ambulances to the same hospital as the suspect.
The case remains under investigation.
