Children Among Injured in Solo Collision on Highway 120
MANTECA, Calif. (April 16, 2024) — Four people died after a minivan with seven people aboard crashed on Highway 120, just west of Highway 99 in Manteca.
The solo-vehicle collision occurred at around 10:07 p.m. on Saturday, April 13th in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan with six passengers was westbound on Highway 120 traveling at roughly 60 to 65 mph, Fox 40 News reports. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway where it crashed in a dirt and grass median.
The van became airborne and crashed into the Van Ryn Avenue overpass where it overturned and caught on fire.
Some good Samaritans were able to pull an infant and three children ages six to 14 years old out of the minivan.
A 6-year-old girl Valeria was injured and transported to UC Davis Medical Center.
Meanwhile, four occupants from the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. They were later identified as Livermore residents, 44-year-old Arriaga Negrete, 40-year-old Liliana Mendoza, 12-year-old Jorge Guerrero, and a 4-month-old infant, David Guerrero.
A Gofundme account is raising money to help the surviving members of the family and for costs to put those who died to rest.
Authorities do not know whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Finally, witnesses are asked to contact the CHP Stockton office at (209) 938-4800.
