Woman Arrested on DUI Charges
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 9, 2022) – Bakersfield police arrested Kimberly Phommasouk, 29, on DUI and manslaughter charges following a fatal crash Wednesday night on White Lane that killed a teenage driver.
Jermari Pierre Terrell, 19, died in the two-vehicle crash about 10:50 p.m. on March 9th in the 4400 block of White Lane, near Dovewood Street, according to Bakersfield Now.
The suspected DUI driver was traveling eastbound in an SUV on White Lane. She attempted to turn left in front of a two-door couple driven by Jermari Terrell as he headed westbound on the same road. The two vehicles collided and the young man’s car veered off the roadway and struck a gas main.
The teenager suffered major injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, Kimberly Phommasouk suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported her to the hospital, but Bakersfield police later arrested her on DUI charges.
Upon release from the hospital, police intend to arrest Kimberly Phommasouk on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence resulting in death, and driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration greater than .08%
The fatal Bakersfield DUI crash remains under investigation.
Finally, a dozen nearby apartments were evacuated for roughly two hours due to the gas leak.
