Major Injury Head-on Crash on Cabrillo Highway 1
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2022) — Two vehicles traveling on Rocky Creek Bridge crashed head-on Wednesday morning on the northbound side of Cabrillo Highway 1.
The two-vehicle crash occurred about 8:51 a.m. on Oct. 5th, in Carmel-by-the-Sea, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the driver of a silver Chrysler 300 sedan is from another country and confirmed he was driving the wrong way and caused the head-on traffic accident. The car crashed into a driver in a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
Both the pickup truck and a silver Chrysler 300 blocked the roadway on the south side of Rocky Creek Bridge. Paramedics responded and transported at least one person with major injuries to a hospital.
Tow trucks removed both damaged vehicles from the roadway and traffic resumed about 10:22 a.m., police said.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
