Bakersfield Head-on Crash on Copus Road, near Interstate 5 Freeway

5 Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash on Copus Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 18, 2024) — Five people were injured Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on Copus Road, just west of the Interstate 5 Freeway in Bakersfield.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 5:25 a.m. on April 17th in Kern County, according to Bakersfield Now.

Authorities say a 52-year-old Bakersfield woman driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck attempted to pass another motorist and crashed head-on into an oncoming Toyota Camry, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The westbound pickup truck collided with the eastbound Toyota at speeds estimated to be around 80 mph, the CHP SAID.

Paramedics responded to the scene to help those injured in the crash including the pickup truck driver and the 47-year-old Maricopa woman driving the Toyota Camry and her three passengers.

They transported all five people to Kern Medical Center.

Investigators say all vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts and they do not suspect alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
