Tracey Gross Killed Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash State Route 76 in Oceanside

Police Search for Suspect in Deadly Hit-and-Run on St. Patrick’s Day

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 22, 2024) — Tracey Gross, 51, of Oceanside, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while riding a bicycle along State Route 76 at Singh Way in Oceanside.

The deadly crash occurred on St. Patrick’s Day late Sunday night as she was riding home. A driver in a silver 2013 or 2015 Kia Optima reportedly hit the woman with its right front bumper.

The driver fled the scene while draggin her bike behind it roughly two miles.

The critically injured woman was transported by ambulance to a hospital and declared brain dead. She is survived by her two children ages 22 and 28 years old. Tracey Gross worked as a local postal carrier.

Also, her death could save the lives of others as she was an organ donor. Surgeons at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla removed her heart, lungs and other organs, her family told the Times of San Diego.

Meanwhile, authorities are searching for the suspect who they believe might live in the area near state Route 76 and Singh Way. The Kia is missing its right headlight and parts from the bottom engine cover, police said.

Investigators are working to locate the suspect who fled the scene. Witnesses are asked to contact the Oceanside Police Department.

Please contact Traffic Collision Investigator Jose Gomez at (760) 435-4952 or via email at [email protected] with any information.

Finally, the victim’s family has created a GofundMe account to raise money for her funeral and medical expenses.
